Binotto speaks out against new porpoising rules: 'Not right'

The FIA has made several rule changes for the 2022 season. Mattia Binotto does not agree with the new rule regarding the porpoising problem. According to the Ferrari team boss, the change comes far too late in the season.
We have already seen many rule changes this year. For example, an inflation surcharge has been introduced due to higher costs for Formula 1 teams and the weight limit has also been increased. Binotto says in conversation with Auto, Motor und Sport that Ferrari have not yet reached the limit.
"With regard to the weight and the adjustments to the budget cap, we have adhered to the prescribed procedures. In both cases the rules were approved with the required majority." So there was a fair vote by the teams on the budget and weight adjustments. The rules were only changed with the majority in favour.
Binotto not happy with new porpoising rules
According to Binotto, the voting on the porpoising issue was not fair. "With the aerodynamics rules, they wanted to undermine the process under the guise of safety. That is not right. There are no safety problems with the floor. The last races have shown that. It is irresponsible towards the teams to introduce new rules so late in the season for which there is no compelling reason."
According to the mandatory rule change, the teams must raise the floor by fifteen millimetres for the 2023 season. The diffuser must also be raised and the teams must work on the stiffness of the part. Furthermore, an extra sensor will be placed on the cars to measure the bounce. The new rules may be detrimental to some teams. Mercedes is strongly in favour of the changes, while Ferrari and Red Bull Racing believe that there are no safety risks.
