The Italian GP weekend at Monza takes place this weekend and Ferrari will finally have to perform in front of their home crowd once again. The pressure from the Italian tifosi will be felt. According to Carlos Sainz, some Ferrari fans are happy, but many are not.
Max Verstappen will defend a four-race winning streak in Italy this weekend. With a fifth consecutive race win, he will further improve his own record. Although Ferrari is strong and has been able to thwart Verstappen's winning streak in several races, they have not made it difficult for him. So in front of their Italian home crowd, Ferrari will have to do their utmost not to succumb to the pressure and beat Verstappen.
Sainz rates mood of Ferrari fans
The extra pressure that the home weekend brings for Ferrari puts the team on edge. So far, 2022 has not been a controlled year for the Italian team. There are blunders almost every race with disastrous consequences. Sainz spoke to Sky Sports about the tifosi: "I can't read the minds of the tifosi, but I can tell you that there will be tifosi who are proud of what we have achieved this year and that we are fighting for wins again. I think that was the biggest goal."
On the other hand, there will also be less satisfied Ferrari fans: "There will also be many tifosi not happy with the way we have handled some races this year. Although we have been competitive, we have not achieved the maximum result. Therefore, we are very critical of ourselves and feel that we need to improve in certain areas if we want to compete with Red Bull and Mercedes. They are very strong."
