'Deal between AlphaTauri and De Vries is close'

Nyck de Vries is according to De Telegraaf the top candidate to succeed Pierre Gasly at AlphaTauri. Where it already came out on Friday night that the Dutchman had been spotted with Helmut Marko in Austria, a deal is said to be even close.
The driver made an excellent impression at the Italian Grand Prix last weekend, which meant De Vries was already firmly in the sights of Williams and Alpine. The latter team was even hoping to get him a test soon, but AlphaTauri may put a stop to that.
Pierre Gasly is reportedly keen to move to Alpine as Fernando Alonso's successor. AlphaTauri is willing to let him go, but it would then want to snare a worthy successor. After the deal with Colton Herta still proved unfeasible, De Vries came emphatically into the picture.
However, the formation knows that there are enough hijackers on the coast, so it decided to act with lightning speed. It therefore brought De Vries to Austria, where he entered into talks with Marko. According to the Dutch medium, this indicates that a switch is close at hand.
De Vries in Formula 1 later in life
De Vries has been waiting for his chance in Formula 1 for years. Over the course of the seasons, he came into the picture several times with teams, but each time they chose someone else. So, at the age of 27, he seems to have secured a permanent place in the motorsport class next season.
