Max Verstappen could theoretically clinch the world title this coming weekend in Singapore. The Dutchman will not only have to win it himself, but also keep an eye on the performances of Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez. Chris Medland states on Formula1.com that it is remarkable that Verstappen is winning the world championship so early in the season.

Indeed, at the start of the racing year, it did not look like Verstappen would deal with the Monegasque in a hurry. Verstappen retired no less than twice in the first three race weekends, while Leclerc managed to pick up his points.

Nevertheless, the reigning world champion remained confident and is already 116 points ahead of pursuer Leclerc heading into the Singapore Grand Prix. With six races to go, he could finish it in just a few days. "That would mark a remarkable turnaround after the opening three races of the season," Medland judges.

Verstappen could deliver final blow

The Formula 1 journalist notes that in theory Leclerc, Perez as well as George Russell are still in contention for the world title. A win by Verstappen in Singapore would be the final blow to the trio, according to him. "A Verstappen victory would end those hopes regardless," he said.
