Years ago they fought a fierce battle in karts, in 2023 they will all be competing in the top class of motorsport: Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, George Russell, Alexander Albon, Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon and Nyck de Vries. The latter is receiving much praise for his Grand Prix debut at Monza, but Norris said it was clear well before then that De Vries belonged in Formula 1.

Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton have both indicated they would like to continue in F1 for a few more years, but the departure of Kimi Raikkonen and, after this year, Sebastian Vettel, shows that the drivers from the 'old guard' are entering the final phase of their careers. In contrast, it is the new generation of top talent that is increasingly in the spotlight.

Norris was already convinced by De Vries

AlphaTauri's newest recruit took a little longer than his peers, but managed to secure an F1 seat via a diversion. De Vries impressed with his GP debut at Monza, convincing many that he deserved a permanent seat. Norris, however, had long been convinced of De Vries' talents.

"Nyck is obviously an amazing driver, he proved that for years in karting. He has dominated in karting at times, plus he is a Formula E champion - a top driver. And he did an excellent job at Monza when he filled in for Albon. De Vries has proved his worth," Norris is quoted by Speedweek.com.
