Jacques Villeneuve does not have a good word to say about the action of Lance Stroll, who steered into Fernando Alonso when the Spaniard tried to overtake him. Villeneuve speaks of a deliberate action and thinks a suspension is in order for the Aston Martin driver.

Villeneuve calls for Stroll suspension

Villeneuve believes the FIA should crack down much harder on dangerous driving like Stroll displayed. "He should be suspended for one race," judges the 1997 world champion, who does not have a good word to say about Stroll's swerving on the straight. "It is pathetic and extremely dangerous."

The Canadian believes such driving behaviour should be punished much more severely because it endangers other drivers, even though it was a deliberate action rather than a mistake. According to Villeneuve, that makes it totally unacceptable, he suggests in his column Formule1.nl.

Alonso miraculously got away from the collision with Stroll and even managed to finish in the points. However, those points were taken away from him after the race: after a protest from Haas, the FIA decided that Alonso's Alpine was unsafe due to the missing mirror, which was damaged in the crash.
