Hamilton: 'Las Vegas won't be as good a circuit as Austin'
- GPblog.com
Lewis Hamilton is looking forward to the race in Las Vegas next season. Speaking to Motorsport-total.com the Mercedes driver says he expects it to be one of the best races of all time. In doing so, Hamilton seems to be referring mainly to the spectacle surrounding the race, rather than the track itself.
Next season, no less than three US races are on the F1 calendar. Besides the race in Austin and the street circuit of Miami where the first race was held last May, a race in downtown Las Vegas is also scheduled next year. Most drivers already reacted enthusiastically to the unveiling, and Hamilton is now adding to that.
"I have no doubt they will do a great job ," Hamilton said. "It will be absolutely incredible. I think without a doubt it will be one of the greatest, if not the greatest race."
'Track won't be that great, I can tell you that right now'
Nevertheless, Hamilton is still keeping a lid on things. Indeed, in the same interview, the Brit admits that he does not expect the track itself to be very good. In his opinion, street circuits are not as good as the open tracks like Austin has, for example. And also because the circuit is newer than Austin's, there will be a marked difference in quality between the two circuits, according to Hamilton.
