Andretti judges: 'We saw certain stupidities from Ferrari there'

Ferrari still seemed to have the fastest car at the beginning of the year, but as the season progressed, the gap with Red Bull Racing widened. Mario Andretti doubts the team made the right choice in parting with Mattia Binotto.
That Ferrari threw away the title itself is clear, but the question is what the team will change for the upcoming season to avoid a similar scenario. Strategic mistakes and reliability issues allowed Red Bull to walk away with the title in 2022.
Ferrari, meanwhile, has announced that Binotto has left the team. The Italian team will enter the new year with another team boss, but who it will be is not yet known. Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport Mario Andretti gives his opinion on the situation at Ferrari. "Was it really necessary to change the man at the top? You would have to know more about it to make a judgement, but it is clear to me that there has to be a different strategy."
Ferrari needs to look at its strategy
Last season there were several occasions when Ferrari chose a completely different strategy from Red Bull and Mercedes. "The other top teams never do that. You don't always have to prove you are particularly clever", Andretti believes.
"We saw certain stupidities there. I don't know who was responsible for that, but the system has to be changed. The drivers need to be more involved, because they are the only ones who can feel how the tyre behaves", the F1 world champion says. According to the former racing driver, Ferrari relies too much on data and technology, while the team should focus on experience to make important choices. Andretti, however, expects the Maranello-based team to come back strong in 2023.
