Stella sees a bright future for McLaren: I think it's a strong combination

It is a new phenomenon in Formula 1: silly season for team bosses. This week, four teams changed their managers, including McLaren. The English team saw Andreas Seidl move to Sauber, where he will prepare Audi's entry into Formula 1. Andrea Stella is the new team boss at McLaren, behind CEO Zak Brown.
It has been a hectic days in Formula 1, even without a Grand Prix. Ferrari, McLaren, Sauber (Audi) and Williams; all made (forced) changes in leadership. "It's been an exciting day, 24 hours 40% of the grid changing," Brown said at a press conference, where GPBlog also joined. "All I can speak to is McLaren's situation, I don't have enough visibility to Ferrari. I thought Mattia did a good job this year, they were very competitive. They had challenges."
Fully accountable
Rather, then, Brown is looking at his own organisation. He appointed a successor to Seidl who was already working within McLaren. "From our standpoint, what I'm looking for in Andrea is total responsibility for the performance of the Formula 1 team. As you mentioned, I think some of the teams are structured similarly, some are structured differently, it's a team effort. I will continue to do what I think I do best which is on the commercial marketing. Bringing in the best people, and giving them the resources and direction to let them do their job to the best of their ability. Ultimately, Andrea's responsibility is the performance of the F1 team," Brown said.
Seidl was widely acclaimed within Formula 1. That is why Sauber (Audi) was so happy to bring in the German. Stella is a different type, in his own words. "I think my style will be hands on team principal. I will be close to the core objectives of the team which is ultimately build a quick car and race this car effectively whilst on track. I think there are strong elements of integration and combination between my characteristics and Zak. I think it's a strong combination," Stella said of working with Brown.
