Carlos Sainz thinks Ferrari did well to appoint Frederic Vasseur as Mattia Binotto's successor. He explained his thoughts with the Italian media Autosprint. Moreover, he is not worried about Vasseur's relationship with Charles Leclerc.

Sainz has known Ferrari's new team boss for some time and knows he could fit in well with the team. The Italian formation was looking for a leader who would have the capabilities to compete directly for the world title next season. According to Sainz, Vasseur is capable of doing so.

"From what I have been told and from what I have seen, I think he is the right man," Sainz revealed. "Everyone knows him in the paddock and I am sure he will do well. There will be an adjustment period, but Fred knows Formula 1 and also Ferrari very well."

Sainz on bond with Leclerc

It is a public secret that Vasseur and Leclerc get along well. Both men know each other from the past and seem to want to continue that bond at Ferrari. However, Sainz is not worried that this will put him out of the running.

"For one thing, I don't think I'm starting from scratch. As I said, I am sure I will get on well with him and he will be happy with me when he sees me working. Besides, I have a good relationship with the team and with Charles. I think his relationship with Leclerc will also be very useful to speed up his acclimatisation here."
