Aston Martin is trading one multiple Formula One champion for another: Sebastian Vettel leaves and Fernando Alonso takes over his seat. The Silverstone-based racing stable is confident Alonso will push the team to the limit in all areas with his competitive nature.
Alonso kicked off the 2022 silly season by announcing he would leave Alpine to take up a new challenge at Aston Martin, which finds itself in the early stages of its ambitious five-year plan to become World Champion.
Aston Martin wants to become champion with Alonso
Aston Martin's Performance Director Tom McCullough is looking forward to working with the two-time world champion and is well aware of Alonso's hunger for more success. He hopes his arrival will bring about a turnaround for both parties.
"I’m still getting to know Fernando. I’ll tell you one thing: he’s a very motivated and competitive character – you can see that from the outside. I’m starting to see that a little bit when I talk to him," said the Brit in conversation with Formula1.com.
"He is focused solely on doing well. He sees a good future with our team. He sees the journey we’re on. [We’re] really happy to have him on board our team. He’s going to push us in every area of the team," McCullough said.
