A spectator of Italian origin has died in an accident during the Dakar Rally, reports Marca.com. While the exact circumstances are unknown, it is clear that the incident took place in the dunes. When exactly the accident took place and whether a competitor was involved is also still unclear. The man was taken to hospital by helicopter, but died during the flight.
This is not the first time there has been a fatal accident during the Dakar Rally. In the 45 editions of the event, a total of 73 people died, including 27 participants. Quentin Lavalée, chief mechanic of car number 726 of PH Spot, was killed in an accident on the liaison route for assistance vehicles almost a year ago.
