Stoffel Vandoorne will join Aston Martin in Formula 1 next season. As reserve driver, he will not only get the chance to stay close to the motorsport class, but will also work with Fernando Alonso again.
The Spaniard made the switch from Alpine to Aston Martin this winter and hopes to make a big development with his new team. In the past, Alonso and Vandoorne already worked together at McLaren, making them by no means strangers to each other.
Alonso role model for Vandoorne
Vandoorne likes to see that Alonso still has the will to get the most out of his car. Speaking to Marca that he therefore takes the Spanish driver as an example for his own career.
"I have worked with world champions in Formula 1," Vandoorne began. "To see Fernando still fighting for points at the highest level is a great motivation for me. He is a person I can learn a lot from."
He himself hopes for a return to Formula 1 in the coming years, although for now he wants to focus on Formula E. "As a driver, you can only focus on what is in front of you and right now I am going to do everything I can to defend my world title in Formula E with my new team: DS Penske."
