De Vries: 'Tost assures me it will be fine as long as I take my time'

Nyck de Vries is about to embark on his first season in Formula 1. The 28-year-old is doing so at a slightly later point in his career than most, but he has already gained a lot of experience in Formula 2 and Formula E. He will also take away new lessons this year and focus on different things.
Despite the Dutchman's illustrious career in F2 and FE (he became champion in both classes), he could still use some advice. De Vries says in an interview with the official F1 channel that AlphaTauri team boss Franz Tost gave him some advice:
“He assured me that, you know, ‘take your time, you’ll be fine, just give yourself the time to get up to speed and take the mileage and experience which you need early on in the season to kind of put all the puzzle pieces together’.”
These are words De Vries can agree with. He explains that people can be tempted to push themselves too fast and too hard.
Laying his focus elsewhere
De Vries also explains that his focus will be entirely on performance now that he is a full-time F1 driver. In the past, that focus was also on deciding what options he had in his career, what choices he would make to fulfil his dreams.
