Chandhok praises Red Bull: 'Two incredible drivers'
- GPblog.com
As Sky Sports' pundit, Karun Chandhok is often on Mercedes' side. However, the Indian has also seen that Red Bull Racing is currently by far the best-performing team in Formula 1. Chandhok is currently watching the Austrian team with admiration, he says on the website of his employer.
The analyst is currently short of superlatives for Red Bull. For instance, he says: "They've got two incredible drivers, the car is quick in qualifying, it manages the tyres well, the engine is strong, it can overtake, the strategy team is brilliant, the pit-stop team is brilliant. And there's no lack of motivation. Adrian is heading into his 40th year at the forefront of the sport, be it IndyCar or Formula 1, and he's still motivated isn't he? And his brain is still there and he motivates that team of people around them."
Admiration for DRS system
Chandhok, once a Formula 1 driver himself, sees 'no weaknesses' at Red Bull. Above all, he admires the team's DRS system. The Indian believes that when pressing the DRS button, Red Bull loses 24/25 per cent drag, while the average F1 car has to make do with 14/15 per cent drag loss. As a result, Red Bull is much faster than the competition in the DRS zones.
The former driver expects Red Bull to qualify on the front row more often than not during the rest of the season. Should things unexpectedly go wrong during qualifying, the car is so strong that it will still be able to work its way through the field to the front, at least that is Chandhok's assumption.
