Yuki Tsunoda drove an excellent race in Spain. The Japanese driver started from P15 but battled for the last spots in the points. Tsunoda eventually crossed the line in ninth place but was penalised for an incident with Guanyu Zhou, which meant Tsunoda still finished outside the points.

Tsunoda finds penalty ridiculous

The penalty deprived the AlphaTauri team of precious points. "It was a ridiculous penalty. It felt really unfair, that's it. The performance was really good, I gave it all, literally everything, and after that lost it also at points, everything in the end. So yeah, super disappointed," the AlphaTauri driver told GPblog and others after the race.

'Was still room'

Battling for ninth place, Tsunoda and Zhou entered the first corner side by side. Tsunoda was on the inside and Zhou soon decided to withdraw from the fight and go off the track. In the end, the AlphaTauri driver received a five-second time penalty for the incident.

"In my perspective, there is still space there. The other car just suddenly ran off the area and pretended like he got forced. But there was still space, he could have still stayed on the track in my perspective. It’s just hard to accept the reality," Tsunoda told Formula 1.
