'Hamilton wants contract worth 250 million at Mercedes'
Lewis Hamilton will drive his 11th season for the Mercedes team in 2023. However, the Briton's contract with his current employer expires at the end of this season, and there has been much talk about Hamilton's future. It was previously reported that the seven-time world champion was in talks with Ferrari. But now, the Daily Mail has revealed that Hamilton wants to continue at Mercedes even longer.
Will Hamilton stay at Mercedes?
Barely a month ago, the same Daily Mail reported that Ferrari would have offered the Mercedes driver a huge contract. Now it is being reported quite differently, as Hamilton is said to want to continue in Formula 1 until he is 43 at Mercedes. Speaking at the press conference in Canada on Thursday, the Briton said, "there is no more to say than that there have been conversations".
Hamilton is said to be asking for a five-year contract, with £50 million a year as salary, which would give him a total of 250 million in a season. A well-informed source reportedly told the English source: "'Lewis wants five years, and if it were just a one-year extension, I don't think he'd accept it."
