Perez balks at lost session: 'We really needed that one'
- Toby McLuskie
It doesn't happen often in 2023, but after the second free practice session, there was no Red Bull in the top five on the timesheet. Max Verstappen came to a sixth time, and Sergio Perez did not even get beyond P8. After the session in Canada, the Mexican will let us know how that is possible.
An eighth place, that was all there was in it for 'Checo' after the second free practice session. Teammate Max Verstappen already revealed that Red Bull Racing has work to do, and Perez speaks words to the same effect.
''It was a real shame that we ended up losing FP1, we really needed it because the conditions weren’t ideal in FP2 towards the end,'' Perez began in Red Bull Racing's post-Friday press release. Although the conditions were not top-notch, Perez also knows what is possible with the RB19.
Opportunities for Red Bull
''I think we’ve got good pace and just need to make sure we play a bit with the car now to get it in the right window because today has all been a bit of a hurry. There is plenty for us to understand tonight, we need to improve our ride and the other teams look strong too, so we will see tomorrow where everybody is.''
The second free practice ended with huge rainfall and for qualifying it is expected again. ''I think it should be an interesting weekend, it gets really dark here in this weather, the visibility becomes poor and the conditions become undrivable pretty quickly. If the rain comes for qualifying, hopefully, it’s not much,'' Perez concluded.
