Provisional grid at Canada | Verstappen P1, four drivers with penalties
In qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix, four Formula 1 drivers have had to face a three-place grid penalty. Max Verstappen was allowed to start from pole position, but Nico Hulkenberg, Carlos Sainz, Yuki Tsunoda and Lance Stroll were all moved back three places. What does the starting grid look like now? GPblog lists it.
Verstappen and Alonso on front row of the grid
The race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve will start at 19:00 (UK time) on Sunday evening. Verstappen stood head and shoulders above everyone else during qualifying, and starts from P1. Hulkenberg was supposed to start next to him after qualifying in P2, but his grid penalty moved him back to P5.
So next to Verstappen is Fernando Alonso, who will start second after qualifying in P3 yesterday. The second starting row consists only of Mercedes cars. Lewis Hamilton starts from third, and George Russell from fourth.
Bad case for Ferrari
Alexander Albon, when the lights go out, will drive away from ninth place on the grid. The Williams driver put in a very handsome performance with his team during Q2 yesterday, surprising friend and foe with his rain qualifying tactics.
It was yet another poor day for the Ferrari's. Sainz has to start in 11th place as a result of the grid penalty. Fellow driver Charles Leclerc does not fare much better, as he has to start from tenth place. Sergio Perez is also in a very disappointing twelfth spot.
