De Vries looks back: 'The end of the session was very frustrating'
- Toby McLuskie
Nyck de Vries set a P14 during the Sprint Shootout in Austria. With a strong time in SQ1, the Dutchman advanced to the second part of qualifying, but there he did not get beyond the 14th spot. De Vries reacts to his Sprint Shootout performance at Viaplay.
"The beginning of the session was competitive though. We were right there. The beginning of SQ2 wasn't bad either, but of course, I lost my time because I went outside the track limits at turn ten. The end of the session was just frustrating because everyone is waiting their turn there," the 28-year-old driver told us.
Marko and De Vries
To convince Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko, De Vries will have to perform a lot better than he has so far. Nyck de Vries has not yet driven in the points this season but is obviously hoping for change this weekend. The Dutchman looks ahead to Saturday afternoon's sprint race.
"Let's first see what the weather does, because it was supposed to rain and it was dry," says De Vries. The AlphaTauri driver who may have to fear for his Formula 1 seat says he hopes for a wet sprint race. "I do want something that can provide a bit of extra spice during the race, like rain during the session," the Dutchman continued.
