Verstappen looks ahead to Silverstone: 'Curious to see how the RB19 performs'
- Sam Godber
This weekend, the Formula 1 circus moves to Britain. The Silverstone Grand Prix has guaranteed spectacle in recent years, in which Max Verstappen has not always had luck on his side. The Dutchman is curious to see how his RB19 will perform on the circuit, he reveals in a Red Bull Racing press release.
Verstappen unlucky at Silverstone
The Limburger managed to win once, having set his fastest lap in Q2 in 2020 on the hard tyre, giving him a strategy advantage over both Mercedes. Things did not go as well in 2021. Verstappen led the championship, winning the sprint race on Saturday. On Sunday, the most talked about crash of the season took place, with Lewis Hamilton and the Dutchman hitting each other in 'cops corner', resulting in a 51G blowout. Hamilton still managed to win the race despite a 10-second time penalty, overtaking the eventual champion of that season.
Last year's race at Silverstone did not go great either. On Saturday, Verstappen grabbed next to pole position after Carlos Sainz managed to beat the Dutchman in the rain. On Sunday, things looked brighter: the eventual 2022 champion quickly grabbed the lead. However, things went wrong when a piece of AlphaTauri got stuck under the car. Verstappen lost a lot of speed with this, eventually finishing seventh.
'Am curious about RB19 performance'
This year, the two-time world champion does hope to be successful. Currently, Verstappen has won the last five races, and will go full for a sixth in a row this weekend. "It's a great track to go to and I'm also curious to see how the RB19 will perform there. There's always a good atmosphere with a lot of passionate racing fans around the whole track. Austria was an incredible weekend for us and hopefully we can have a strong weekend again in Silverstone, with a solid and clean performance."
