Horner impressed with this F1 team: 'Could be an interesting factor'
Pirelli introduced a new construction for its Formula 1 tyres at Silverstone, which should make them more resistant to the large amount of downforce. For handling, this change should have no impact, but according to Christian Horner, a difference is noticeable.
As Max Verstappen pointed out, Red Bull Racing had a positive Friday ahead of the British Grand Prix. Verstappen and Sergio Perez finished the first free practice session first and second, while the second free practice session resulted in first and fourth places. Here, Perez had to concede two tenths to his teammate.
"It's been a very positive day," Horner said in conversation with Sky Sports. "These tyres are slightly different, we've been learning about those. A lot of deg, particularly in soft compound. All drivers were seeing that so that could be an interesting factor for Sunday, particularly if there's a temperature change as well."
So, according to the Red Bull team boss, the new Pirelli tyres do show a difference. "I think these tyres are a little bit different. When you get a variable that comes in, suddenly it moves the order around. Cars maybe work their tyres better than others, certain drivers adapt quicker than others," he continued.
Horner impressed with Williams
A surprising factor in the second free practice session was Williams. Alexander Albon recorded a third time, while Logan Sargeant was also well off with a fifth time. "Super impressive," Horner said about their performance. "Not just Alex but both the guys. They are proper laps, not just one lap. Their long runs look pretty sensible as well. Based on that pace they would be a factor in the group behind."
