Coulthard on Verstappen dominance: 'Same as Senna and Schumacher'
- Toby McLuskie
Max Verstappen is dominating in Formula 1 at the moment. The Dutchman won his sixth race in a row in Britain in 2023. It seems difficult for the other drivers to stop Verstappen. David Coulthard compares Verstappen's dominance to the times of Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher.
Verstappen is in a lone position in 2023. At the beginning of the season, Sergio Perez still seemed to pose some threat to the Dutchman, but since the Miami Grand Prix, the two-time world champion managed to win every race. His impressive performance this season puts many records in sight for Verstappen.
Coulthard praises Verstappen
Verstappen picked up eight seven pole postitions and eight wins in the 10 races in 2023. "Flawless at the moment, very few mistakes. I think we're witnessing the sort of moments that we saw during Senna's time or Schumacher's time or Lewis's dominance. He's making the most of the opportunity.”," Coulthard said of Verstappen in the F1 Nation podcast.
"If you look at the way he drives, look at the speed, the commitment, the ease of which he handles changing conditions, making very few mistakes in what we've had so far this year. Of course he's not flawless because he's only human, but anyone that doesn't recognise his brilliance, it's only because they are not a particular fan of how he maybe talks out of the car or the fact that they support another team, but to deny him or to deny Red Bull acknowledgement for their consistency, I think it's a mistake."
