Haas close to announcing drivers for '24: 'Can make decision'
- GPblog.com
Haas' season is one with two faces: on Saturday during qualifying the car usually goes fine, only to drop to the backfield during the Grand Prix after a good starting position. At least postitive is the current form of Nico Hulkenberg, who has already captured nine points despite the difficult situation. His teammate Kevin Magnussen is having a much harder time.
The Dane, already on his second season for Haas after his return to Formula 1, has two points. What is probably worse for Magnussen is that he has been in his teammate's shadow for some time. The 30-year-old lacks the right form, just when Haas wants to make decisions on the driver line-up for the 2024 season.
Steiner happy with Magnussen and Hulkenberg
Team boss Guenther Steiner waited a particularly long time last year before officially announcing he would replace Mick Schumacher with Hulkenberg. For next season, the Italian plans to make an announcement: "I hope before the summer break. You know, I think we can make the decision. I'm not spending a lot of time on it. You know, we need to obviously do it. And we will get our drivers confirmed as soon as possible. I mean, as I said before, I mean, it's nothing new for you guys. I'm pretty happy with our driver lineup now."
Formula 1's summer break starts in a fortnight. That means the Belgian Grand Prix is the deadline? Speaking to GPblog and others, the American team boss said of this: "Maybe you go on holiday earlier," Steiner laughed, implying that a decision might be made public sooner.
