Hamilton beats Verstappen
F1 qualifying at the Hungaroring was an exciting session. Pole went to Hamilton in the closing stages of Q3, who was just faster than Verstappen over a full lap. This puts the two 2021 rivals back side by side on the grid and the first corner will be interesting. The two McLarens behind will be hoping to take advantage of it.
The biggest surprise in the top-10 is Guanyu Zhou. The Chinese qualified fifth for Alfa Romeo and Valtteri Bottas confirmed the team's good pace. Indeed, the Finn starts from seventh place. Charles Leclerc is between the two Alfas. Sergio Perez finally got through to Q3 again after five misses, but did not get beyond a ninth starting spot.
Carlos Sainz missed Q3 by two thousandths and starts from P11, ahead of Alpine's disappointing drivers. Daniel Ricciardo did impress on his comeback. Unlike his teammate, the Australian did get through to Q2 and starts from P13.
