Fernando Alonso is in third place in the constructors' championship after 12 Grands Prix and whoever predicted that last season could have made a lot of money. The two-time world champion is happy with how the first half of the season has gone and looks forward to seeing how the project with Aston Martin unfolds in the coming period.

Aston Martin, like Alonso, is third in the world championship. Last year, the British racing stable finished seventh among constructors, so there were many frowned upon when the Spaniard announced 12 months ago that he would swap Alpine for Aston Martin. That choice turned out to work out perfectly.

Not just because Aston Martin has its act together with the AMR23 (although the last few weeks were less successful than the start of the season), but also because things are very unsettled at Alonso's old employer. Team boss Otmar Szafnauer and sporting director Alan Permane are more or less forced to leave, while CEO Laurent Rossi has also parted company.

Alonso happy at Aston Martin

Speaking to GPblog and others, Alonso reveals that he has indeed made the right decision to leave Alpine. "Yeah, obviously you never know, it would be nice to have a crystal ball and before you make a decision in switching teams, you know the future, but yeah, at the end I'm happy where I am and there is a project here into the future and I'm very proud," said the 42-year-old driver, who didn't say anythinger further on the turmoil at Alpine.

Alonso looks back on his first seven months at Aston Martin with a particularly good feeling. "Incredible, a dream first half of the season, we are P3 in the Constructors' Championship in front of Ferrari, we are P3 in the Drivers' Championship together with Lewis, it was impossible to think this way in Bahrain."
