AlphaTauri boss: 'Ricciardo wasn't here without those times at Silverstone'

Mick Schumacher lost his seat at Haas last year. The son of the legendary Michael Schumacher was deemed too light by Haas team boss Guenther Steiner. Schumacher fans are still hoping for a comeback from 'junior'. In an interview with Motorsport-magazin.com, former F1 boss Peter Bayer discusses the young German's situation.
Schumacher was frequently linked with AlphaTauri. Team boss Franz Tost previously revealed he would have liked the youngster to join the team. However, the AlphaTauri door remains closed, Helmut Marko has repeatedly confirmed. Peter Bayer, AlphaTauri's new CEO, advises Schumacher to find a way to convince people of his abilities. He points to Daniel Ricciardo, who was given Nyck de Vries ' seat at the Italian racing team after a strong tyre test at Red Bull.
Schumacher should be given chance
"If Daniel had not driven such [good] times at Silverstone, he would not be in the car with us now," Bayer says. "That's where his challenge lies. How can he prove he is fast? If Toto [Wolff] doesn't put him in the car once, it will be difficult for Mick." Schumacher is currently test and reserve driver at Mercedes.
