Mercedes team boss Wolff outlines scenario: 'Then decision already made'
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has been with his current employer since 2012. He says that if he is no longer wanted there, he will not hesitate and will probably just make way. The results of the W14 driven by Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have been rather disappointing.
"If I feel that I am no longer the best person for the job, then I will try to find someone else," Wolff stressed to Der Westen. "And I will not hesitate or be in two minds. Because if you doubt, it means the decision has already been made," he added.
Current situation at Mercedes
"It is not a disaster, but we are still not where we want to be. From a human point of view, it is very difficult because we don't know whether we will be competitive in six months' time or fighting for the world championship in a year's time. You just have to put one foot in front of the other and try to get back to the top," the Austrian explained.
Despite the car being anything but satisfactory, the team are still a steady second in the constructors' championship. Hamilton and Russell have built up a 51-point lead towards Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll's Aston Martin in the standings.
