Herbert names least favorite driver: 'A horrible selfish git'
- Ludo van Denderen
With the increased number of media and companies capitalising on Formula 1, former F1 drivers often have a future as analysts after their motorsport careers. For Johnny Herbert, for example, who won three Grands Prix. And for Ralf Schumacher, brother of and winner of six Grands Prix himself. One now works for a betting site, while the German regularly gives his opinion on the German version of Sky Sports.
Herbert and Schumacher raced in Formula 1 during the same era, and thanks to an interview with Herbert for Casinosite, it is clear that the two are not very close. Indeed, the Brit - himself once working for the English version of Sky Sports, cannot name a driver he dislikes more than Ralf Schumacher.
"The one racer I didn’t like the most because I found his arrogance on the track awful, was Schumacher, Ralf that is! He was obnoxious. He took me off the circuit once at 215 mph at Monza and his team had to push him to come back to apologise. From that point, I thought, ‘you horrible selfish git.’ The professional thing to do when you have made a mistake is immediately go up and apologise. He didn’t have the balls to do it."
Herbert misses Michael
Disliking Ralf, however, the analyst does have fond memories of Michael - whose teammate Herbert was. "We have lost a megastar of our sport who gave so much enjoyment to a lot of people. It was very sad that Mick couldn’t have his Dad around and it is sad that we as an F1 community don’t have him around the paddock. It is a shame. Everyone loses out on learning about the Michael Schumacher we never saw when he was in the cockpit", Herbert said.
