Ricciardo returns to AlphaTauri team for engineering duties
- Cas van de Kleut
The Singapore Grand Prix is one of the toughest Grands Prix of the year. At AlphaTauri, Daniel Ricciardo is back at the race weekend, only he will not be active on the track. Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson talked about what they expect from the Singapore Grand Prix weekend in the Italian team's race preview.
Return of Ricciardo
AlphaTauri is not running very well yet this season. The Italian racing stable is last in the constructors' championship. In addition, Daniel Ricciardo is currently not fit to race, and so Liam Lawson replaces him for the time being. Ricciardo will be at the track this weekend, but here he will only carry out duties around engineering.
Tsunoda and Lawson on Singapore GP
Tsunoda is looking forward to the weekend in Singapore: "I enjoy driving the track and got through to Q3 last year in tricky conditions when we couldn’t use slicks until the final part, as the track was wet at the start. With a street circuit – Singapore is a “real” street track because every part of it is a public road – the condition of the track surface always changes from year to year and session to session. You have to build up gradually and do as many laps as possible to gain confidence in the car."
Lawson is driving at the Marina Bay Circuit for the first time. For him, this is a special circuit: "When I was a kid, it was my favourite circuit. I think because it was a night race and just looked really cool. I used to play it on the Formula 1 games all the time. My dad actually used to promise me every year that he would take me to the Singapore Grand Prix, and in the end, we never went, but he’s going to be coming to the Grand Prix this weekend, so actually I’m taking him!"
