'Lawson will possibly replace Tsunoda in 2024 at AlphaTauri'
Liam Lawson could be a part of the AlphaTauri team next season, potentially replacing Yuki Tsunoda at Red Bull's sister team. The New Zealand driver has driven two races in Formula 1, but in those two races, he proved that he would definitely be competitive.
Lawson finished thirteenth on his chaotic debut at Zandvoort. At Monza, he was even closer to the points, finishing 11th. The driver who also competes in Super Formula will have a tough task in Singapore, as this Grand Prix is one of the trickiest Grands Prix on the calendar.
Lawson as Tsunoda's replacement
With Ricciardo appointed to the team, AlphaTauri has experience inside. So it looks like Tsunoda will be the one to leave the team if Lawson gets a contract at the Italian racing stable. According to Formu1a.uno, Red Bull wants drivers at AlphaTauri who are also good enough for the main team.
What will happen to Tsunoda?
Also, according to RACER, it is not crazy if Tsunoda will be replaced by Lawson at AlphaTauri. Then, in the event of a switch between Lawson and the Japanese driver, Tsunoda would become Red Bull Racing's reserve driver. He will then fill in when Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez would be unavailable.
GPblog also previously analysed the situation Red Bull are in. Back then, it was already clear that there were doubts within the leadership about Tsunoda's future. The Japanese driver was acquired from Honda, and he has shown progression but has never been mentioned as a possible candidate at Red Bull Racing. Therefore, the fact he may be sacrificed in 2024 is not a crazy thought.
