'Nyck de Vries close to a move to the world champion'
- Toby McLuskie
Nyck de Vries is close to a move to WEC, the World Endurance Championship. The Dutchman could continue his career with the world champion Toyota team, which he was also close to driving for previously.
After leaving AlphaTauri, the one-time F1 points scorer has yet to secure a new seat. With WEC, Formula E and possibly even Indycar, there are options for him, but it has not yet led to a contract. Toyota is hoping to sign De Vries, reports Autosport. The team had previously agreed a deal for De Vries in 2023, were it not for the fact that he would receive an offer from Helmut Marko to drive in Formula 1 a little later.
De Vries to WEC?
If the Dutchman actually joins Toyota, he will in all likelihood become teammates with Kamui Kobayashi and Mike Conway. He would be the replacement for Jose Maria Lopez. The question is whether a move to WEC would preclude a possible return to Formula E. Earlier, De Vries opted to want to combine the two racing classes.
