An exciting qualifying session in Mexico meant a completely different outcome to what might have been expected beforehand. Not Max Verstappen on pole position, but Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque was the fastest in the home country of Red Bull driver Sergio Perez and will start from first place during the race.

Next to Leclerc is his teammate Carlos Sainz. This means an all-red front row of the grid, due to the two Ferraris in the top two. Verstappen will probably have to start from the same place he finished in Mexico: third place. Fourth place is a surprise, as that is where Daniel Ricciardo will start.
In his AlphaTauri, the Australian set a 1:17.382, which was good for a faster time than Sergio Perez, Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri, among others. Mexican driver Perez is driving his home race this weekend and will therefore have to start from fifth place. Hamilton will start from sixth place according to the provisional grid. He was fastest in Q2 but had to beat other drivers in Q3.
Logan Sargeant will start last because of the penalty he received. The American driver received a grid penalty of no less than 10 spots.
