Verstappen agrees with everyone: 'Yes, I am the best driver'
The numbers don't lie: with three world titles and 54 Grand Prix victories, Max Verstappen can rightly be counted among the very best Formula 1 drivers of all time. Especially in the last two seasons, the Red Bull Racing driver has been elusive for the competition: no matter who tries, nobody can keep up with Verstappen.
Verstappen is in the form of his life: he makes no mistakes, is the best at handling his tyres during races and also had the RB19 at his disposal last season. Designed by Adrian Newey, this Red Bull car is possibly the best F1 car ever built.
Verstappen has an important maxim
When De Telegraaf asked Verstappen whether he is currently the best driver of the moment - as many say - the Dutchman could only agree: "I think you always have to believe in yourself. For me, that is an important maxim. My approach has always been that I can beat anyone. But it's not like when I'm sitting on the couch at home, I say to myself all day: I'm the best, I'm the best," he concluded the sentence with a joke.
The three world titles have not made Verstappen think any differently about himself. Even in 2015 - the year he made his entrance into Formula 1 - the Dutchman had no doubts. "Then, of course, I was not in the best car and I knew very well that I still had a lot to learn, but I did not doubt my own ability," Verstappen stated.
