Verstappen gives Red Bull sleepless nights with adventure in winter break
Max Verstappen will continue to travel quite a bit during the winter break. The Dutchman revealed this in a Red Bull Racing video. For example, the triple world champion is still flying to Brazil for his brother-in-law's wedding.
For Formula 1 drivers, life through the year mainly consists of flying and living in hotels. With 22 Grands Prix on the calendar last year, Verstappen flew a lot. During the winter break, Verstappen could retire comfortably to his haven in Monaco, but that does not appear to be the plan.
What Verstappen will do during the winter break
Asked what the men will do during the break, Verstappen first jokingly replies 'eat'. Sergio Perez complements by saying: "No travelling, that's the first rule". However, Verstappen cannot stick to that rule this year.
"I can't say that. I'm still travelling a lot. I have to go to a wedding of my brother in law in Brazil. So then I'll spend Christmas there as well otherwise I am travelling back to Europe again. That will be nice. Good temperatures around there (in Brazil)," Verstappen said.
"Escape the cold, then back to the cold and into the snow because I haven't been skiing for five years. Hopefully I don't need to call the team in January to tell them I've broke a leg! Then slowly in January you start training again."
Verstappen then has over a month to prepare for the Formula 1 season. That starts with a three-day winter test in Bahrain from 21 to 23 February. The circus will then race its first Grand Prix a week later. The Bahrain Grand Prix will be held on Saturday 2 March.
