Aston Martin says "the truth" was the only way for the Formula One team to properly deal with the dynamic between Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll after the two-time world champion joined Lawrence Stroll's team in 2023.
Aston Martin on Alonso and Stroll dynamics
Although the team was aware of the challenge the demanding Alonso would bring, according to team boss Mike Krack, they knew exactly how to approach the F1 veteran's arrival. There were extensive discussions within the team about what this approach should entail, but in the end, it was quite simple, according to the Luxembourger.
Krack stresses that it was a special situation, with the owner's son and a very experienced driver as key players. "When Fernando joined us, many people were warning us he could be difficult, so we tried to prepare ourselves," said the Aston Martin team boss in a conversation with Motorsport.com.
In the end, it was decided that the best approach was mainly to be open and honest. "The truth is sometimes the hardest bit, and these are the most difficult conversations. But if you have them, it's so much easier after," Krack explained.
As a result of this approach, Krack says the Silverstone-based team has an open, honest, transparent relationship with both drivers. In addition, he stresses that both Alonso and Stroll have handled it in a mature manner and that both drivers have the team's number one priority.
