Red Bull highlight first female mechanic: 'Great achievement'
All Formula 1 teams, as well as the sport itself, are currently working towards greater inclusivity. Yet the majority of mechanics are still male. However, change is slowly becoming visible. At Red Bull Racing, Emmie Jones became the first female mechanic on Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez's team.
Red Bull snatched their first female mechanic from Mercedes
Jones began her career in Formula 1 in 2018 as a technician with Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton's team. She came over from the W Series, where she worked as a mechanic. In March 2022, before the start of the first season with the new generation of F1 cars, she swapped Mercedes for Red Bull's team.
"To be the first female Oracle Red Bull Racing mechanic a pretty big achievement for me and I'm very proud to be it and hopefully it can inspire a lot more to follow in my footsteps," Jones said in a video on Built For Athletes' YouTube channel.
"I've always wanted to be a mechanic. Being surrounded by engines throughout my life with my brother and my father, so yeah, being within an F1 team was sort of like the pinnacle. It's where you want to everyone wants to be the best at whatever they do so it was definitely my main goal."
