Formula E boss to pay £250,000 if Verstappen does NOT become F1 champion!
- Ludo van Denderen
The season is barely one test day old, and Max Verstappen was already by far the fastest. Also in 2024, the Dutchman starts as the outspoken favourite for the Formula 1 world title. For now, betting on Verstappen's title at a betting agency won't make you rich. What can make money, however, is if the Dutchman does not end up taking the title.
Jeff Dodds, the CEO of Formula E, also assumes that Verstappen will manage to win his fourth World Championship in a row. And if that doesn't happen? Then Dodds will transfer a hefty sum to charity, he told TNT, the broadcaster that televises Formula E in the UK, in an interview.
A quarter of a million
"If he doesn’t win it, there’s 19 other drivers, if any one of the other 19 drivers wins, we’ll give a quarter of a million dollars to the charity of the choice of the other driver that wins," Dodds told TNT.
So the Brit does not assume he will lose money at all, as it would be 99 per cent certain that Verstappen will prolong his title: "It wouldn’t be the worst day in the office to give a load of money to charity. But absolutely, he is nailed on to win that season."
