Dutch commentater Olav Mol believes everyone is exaggerating when it comes to Oliver Bearman. He thinks the young Briton should be compared to his teammate, in this case Charles Leclerc. So he told Ziggo Sport Race Café.

Oliver Bearman had a great debut weekend in Jeddah. He crossed the line seventh after having to replace Carlos Sainz from FP3 after undergoing surgery following appendicitis. The Briton managed to keep compatriots Norris and Hamilton behind him and add six points to his total. He was the talk of the day in the paddock.

Bearman has been a real racer by birth. His father, grandfather and uncle were also drivers, so he was at the track from a young age. The Briton was supposed to start this weekend's F2 main race from first place on the grid, only the Formula 1 adventure got in his the way to do that. In an exclusive interview with GPBlog, the 18-year-old talked more about his past and his goals.

'Bearman should have been faster'

At the Ziggo Sport Race Café, Mol compares the dynamic between the Monegasque and the Briton to that of the two men at Red Bull: "If Pérez is half a second slower than Max, he is poor. If Bearman is half a second slower than Leclerc, then it's totally awesome. If you are good enough to do it, then just do it".

GT3 driver Indy Dontje stands up for Bearman and says: "You're right that he does just have to perform and he's hired to do that of course. But it's just having respect for a guy like that who is so young and getting in."

To which Mol responds stoically: "I have."
