Hakkinen sees three options for Sainz: 'They would benefit from him'
- Cas van de Kleut
At the moment, Carlos Sainz is probably the most sought-after driver in Formula 1 without a seat. After his victory in Australia, many people find it incomprehensible that Ferrari is letting him go. Mika Hakkinen thinks Sainz could be important for one particular team.
Lewis Hamilton will replace Sainz at Ferrari after this season. The Spaniard, despite not having a seat for the time being, seems little concerned about whether he will still be racing in Formula 1 in 2025. Red Bull team boss Christian Horner, for instance, said he was already keeping an eye on the Spaniard.
Hakkinen is also little worried about the three-time race winner, he said in his column on the Unibet website: "Meanwhile Carlos [Sainz] is going to land somewhere else, and in my opinion he deserves a competitive drive in a team which needs the combination of consistency, speed and experience."
The three best teams for Sainz
Therefore, the two-time world champion also sees a good team for the Spaniard: "Mercedes would benefit from this kind of talent as they seek to return to competitiveness. You could argue that Aston Martin really ought to be going for Carlos too, but let’s not forget that Carlos started his F1 career at Scuderia Toro Rosso. Red Bull know his abilities as well as anyone."
