Mercedes have announced Doriane Pin to participation in the FRECA championship. In it, the 20-year-old French driver will compete for the Iron Ladies team still this year, in addition to her participation in the F1 Academy.

Mercedes confirm Doriane Pin for FRECA

Together with Marta Garcia, Pin will form the line-up of the all-female Iron Ladies in the Formula Regional Championship by Alpine (FRECA). Mercedes hope this will give her another opportunity to further develop her talents. "I feel grateful for this opportunity to participate in such a championship. I'm fully committed to this new challenge and can't wait to be on track and make the most of it," says Pin.

She continued: "It's fantastic to take another important step in single-seater racing together with Iron Dames and Mercedes. Together with Marta [Garcia], we aim to inspire young girls around the world to pursue their dreams fearlessly and embrace opportunities in racing." Pin will also compete with the Iron Ladies team in several World Endurance Championship events, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Pin is currently third in the F1 Academy championship. Back in March, she lost her victory in Saudi Arabia after a bizarre incident. After she crossed the finish line and the black-and-white chequered flag was waved, she continued driving at full speed thinking she still had one more lap to go. In doing so, she ignored warnings from marshals, who waved red flags to get her attention. This landed her a drive-through penalty, which was converted into a 20-second time penalty.
