Spanish media knew that Carlos Sainz had decided not to respond to Audi's advances. Sainz, who has to leave Ferrari after this season, would reportedly prefer to wait and see if there might be a place for him at Red Bull Racing or Mercedes. Although nothing is yet to be confirmed about the Spaniard's future, he is yet to entirely rule out a move to Audi.

Sainz had barely entered the F1 paddock in Miami before he was first asked the question, "Is it true that you have indeed said no to Audi?" With a small smile on his face, the Spaniard responded, "Ahhh, you go straight into it! No, that’s not correct. There’s no truth about it. Nothing to add."

Sainz waiting for now

After Fernando Alonso announced he was staying with Aston Martin, and Red Bull Racing and Mercedes indicated they were quietly weighing up their options, calm seems to have somewhat returned to the transfer market. It seems Sainz will have to wait some time before he knows where his future lies. The 29-year-old driver previously indicated he wanted clarity as early as possible.

"As I’ve said before, there are certain things that don’t depend fully on myself and there’s going to be some waiting to be done. But, in the meantime, it’s not like we are completely stopped. We’re still in conversations with people and advancing what we can advance. But all those things include the waiting that as I said before we’re going to need to do for people to make up their minds in many areas."
