Alonso on Hamilton: 'Might not get penalty because he isn't Spanish'
Fernando Alonso had an unfortunate sprint race. The Spaniard suffered a crash after Lewis Hamilton threw his car in at Turn 1 on Lap 1. Afterwards, Alonso was furious about the accident.
Things went wrong for the Aston Martin driver as early as Turn 1. He went four wide along with Lance Stroll, Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris, after which the four collided. In the end, Stroll and Norris crashed out.
Alonso furious after sprint race Miami
Over the radio, the Spaniard was already complaining that Hamilton would have braked too late. After the sprint race, Alonso explained his opinion a bit more clearly to Viaplay: "I think he came to the inside a bit out of control. So, yeah, let's see. If they decide anything, probably they don't. He's not Spanish, so probably no penalty."
Alonso also has little good to say about the sprint format: "As I said, there is only to lose, nothing to gain. For us, it's more a free practice, so we wanted not to take any risk and just complete the race, both cars out in the first corner. This is the sprint race. It's completely meaningless and only good for damage, penalties and no action."
