Steiner says this is the perfect driver lineup from the grid this year
Guenther Steiner is a familiar face in F1. The Italian is known for being the former team principal of Haas, and he gained many fans when he appeared on the Netflix show 'Drive To Survive'. Steiner left Haas when the American team did not renew his contract, but he is still a prominent face in the world of Formula 1. Now, the 59-year-old spoke about who his ultimate driver lineup would be from this year's drivers on the grid.
Steiner picks Norris and Verstappen has his dream driver lineup
Since leaving Haas before the 2024 season, Steiner was team principal there from 2016-2023. However, the Italian is still seen around the paddock in F1 today, working through the media most weekends. He was also the ambassador at the Miami Grand Prix, which is where he spoke about who his dream driver lineup would be if he returned to team principal action.
Speaking on the F1 Explains Podcast live in Miami, the 59-year-old said that he would "pick Lando Norris" in his driver lineup. "He’s very talented, and he is now at the stage with McLaren where he’s almost there, but not completely. I think he’s hungry to make that last little step to get to the top, and he’s got enough experience, but he’s still got that real hunger to get there, and, of course, he has got the talent. That’s the reason why."
Norris was able to make use of that talent by taking victory on his 110th attempt around the Miami International Autodrome with a fantastic performance, and it was a popular selection by Steiner, with the live crowd cheering when he mentioned the 24-year-old.
And who would the Italian choose to partner up with Norris? It would be the three-time World Champion Max Verstappen, of course. "I mean, I would have to say Max. If I didn't say Verstappen... it's fair enough, isn't it? Exactly."
