Raikkonen: My win "came quite easily"
There was barely a Formula One fan who was not delighted when Kimi Raikkonen secured his first win in the sport since the opening race of 2013 when he topped the podium in America in October.
The Finn produced one of the best performances of his second spell at Ferrari and says that the race win actually came to him quite easily.
Sadly, this could be the last win of his illustrious career, as he is moving to Sauber for the next two years, by which time he will be 41 and surely retirement will beckon for the 2007 World Champion.
It is perhaps fitting then that Raikkonen had his final moment in the sun with the win in Austin.
On the win, Raikkonen revealed: “I think overall we had pretty decent speed all the time, and it fell into the right place.
“We had a pretty good car basically all weekend, and in the race we did the right things in the right times, and it paid off.
“It was a bit close in the end, but that’s what usually happens. It came quite easily in many ways.”
Raikkonen showed all his experience to hold off the rampant Max Verstappen, showing all the experience he has gained during his long career in the sport to hold off the youngster in the final laps.
