Liam Lawson, reserve driver for Visa Cash App RB, has high praise for fellow driver Max Verstappen. In an interview with Talksport, the New Zealander talks about the Dutchman and how he deals with the hatred because he is winning.

Praise for Verstappen

Max Verstappen does not have fans everywhere. There are Formula 1 fans who want to see the Dutchman lose to create variety. Yet Verstappen does not care about that. "I think he managed it very, very well," Liam Lawson told Talksport. Lawson drove last year as a replacement for Daniel Ricciardo for the then AlphaTauri.

Lawson remembered back to his debut in Formula 1 and how he was stressed and nervous going into the race. He explained how the Dutchman helped him. "He just came into my room and was sort of pretty open and said to remember to enjoy it, that it's a big sort of achievement." Lawson praised Verstappen as a mentally strong driver.

"He's not fazed really by anything. So he was somebody that was pretty good to talk to when I stepped into a high pressure situation." Lawson also added that Verstappen is not put off by hate either. "I think it would be a pretty cool position to be in to win so much that you're hated for it."

Lawson does note that the Dutchman also has support. "He has a huge support fan base anyway, outside of the people that maybe don't like him so much, so he's got nothing to worry about."
