F1 Today More Mercedes investigation news and Verstappen at Goodwood

News rocked the paddock of an anonymous message that was sent around at the Spanish Grand Prix accusing Mercedes of "sabotaging" Lewis Hamilton. Today, more news has come out surrounding the investigation that Toto Wolff and his team have undergone since this message was sent out. As well as this news, Max Verstappen will be involved in his first Goodwood Festival of Speed event in 2024, and there are still rumours surrounding Audi and their second driver spot.

Mercedes e-mail investigation, but no punishment possible

During the Spanish Grand Prix weekend, an anonymous message was sent to many people around the paddock, including a Daily Mail journalist, saying that Mercedes were "sabotaging" Lewis Hamilton in 2024, with his move to Ferrari next year in mind. The e-mail accused Wolff of "vindictiveness" and claimed that the Austrian is 'doing all he can to get back at Hamilton' because the seven-time world champion

It was a claim that was refuted straight up by CEO Toto Wolff, and he said that police were called to investigate the claim after charges were filed by the Austrian. However, the investigation has already been completed, and a Northamptonshire Polie spokeswoman has said that "regarding an email that had been circulated within the Mercedes AMG F1 Team... no criminal offences were found to have been committed."

However, according to the Daily Mail, Mercedes have not finished, hiring private investigators to look into the e-mail matter. A Mercedes spokesperson reportedly told the British newspaper that the team believes it was sent by a "random Hamilton fan", and the German team should contact the police again if more e-mails are received.

Audi in talks with four race winners for 2025

Stake F1 Team's team representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi gave Motorsport.com an update on their potential driver lineup for 2025, with Sauber's second seat still available for next season.

According to Alunni Bravi, Sauber, who will become Audi in 2026, has said that the team are in contact with Carlos Sainz, Esteban Ocon, Pierre Gasly and Valtteri Bottas with the possibility of joining Nico Hulkenberg who made the move from Hass to sing with Sauber for 2025 and 2026. Alunni Bravi said there are "four race winners, and we are discussing with all of them."

There were rumours that Sainz was going to join Sauber for 2025 and be a part of the long-term project with Audi from 2026 onwards, but those stories have quietened now, and the Spaniard is now in talks to join Williams.

Verstappen to take part in the Festival of Speed

Red Bull made the announcement today that Max Verstappen will drive at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year for the first time in his career. He will take part in Red Bull Racing's 20th anniversary in Formula 1.

The three-time World Champion will get behind the wheel of a special car during the weekend, and he will also be joined by former drivers David Coulthard, Christian Klien, Mark Webber, Daniel Ricciardo and Sergio Perez, all of whom will be driving a collection of Red Bull cars to celebrate their huge success in the premier class of motorsport. There will also be a driving appearance from team principal Christian Horner alongside the former drivers.
