Red Bull Racing announced Sergio Perez's contract extension a few weeks ago, but the Mexican has been struggling with a dip in form for a while. The six-time Formula 1 race winner finished eighth in Barcelona last weekend and is currently fifth in the drivers' championship. Nevertheless, the Guadalajara-based man hopes to turn the tide soon.

"It's been a bit of a nightmare," Perez said about his weekend in Barcelona. Yet he remains fairly calm about it. "I'm still calm about it. Working hard with the team, with the engineers to turn the situation around," Perez told Sky Sports on media day ahead of the start of the Austrian Grand Prix weekend.

Perez hopeful ahead of Austria

Max Verstappen's teammate hopes better results will soon follow, starting in Austria. "You're talking about very small margins. So if you find a couple of things, all of a sudden, life looks very different. So we're working on that. We’ve done it before, and I’m sure we will be able to do it again. It would be nice to do it here at home."

This race weekend in Austria is also dominated by the sprint elements on Saturday. Perez sees that element of this three-day in Styria as one of the key factors. "I think it's something we will focus on. I think that will be something important for us to look at."
