After an exciting sprint qualifying, Max Verstappen was narrowly faster than his main rival: Lando Norris. In the end, the difference between the two drivers was just under a tenth. Oscar Piastri may start third in the shorter race on Saturday. View the provisional starting grid for the sprint race in Austria here.

It was a short but nevertheless no less exciting qualifying session. So in the end, Verstappen came out on top. However, the two McLaren drivers, Norris and Piastri are hot on his heels. The second row is completed by the Mercedes of George Russell.

On the third row of the grid, we find Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton. The latter in particular was not satisfied with his performance in qualifying, even calling it "disastrous". So the seven-time world champion will try to gain the necessary places in tomorrow's sprint race.

Two top drivers start just inside the Top 10

Two were other interesting performances in the top 10: Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc. The latter enters tomorrow's race on P10 of the grid after engine problems in SQ3 threw a spanner in the works. Perez will start the race from P7, as he was held back by heavy traffic on the track.
