Red Bull Ring find replacement for Jos Verstappen in Legends Parade

28 June at 18:51

The Red Bull Ring has found a replacement for Jos Verstappen. The Legends Parade will take place as normal on Sunday, but after Jos' cancellation, the organisers had to look for a replacement.

Commenting to GPblog, the circuit informs: "The Legends Parade 2024 under the title "Austrian GP Winners" will take place on Sunday, June 30, before the start of the GP from 12:30 to 12:50 (warm-up on Saturday, June 29, 17:50 to 18:20). Jos Verstappen will not take part. Patrick Friesacher will drive the RB8."

A replacement for Jos Verstappen

The news follows statements by Jos Verstappen, who refused to enter the RB8 yet. According to Jos, Christian Horner had been working behind the scenes to keep Jos out of action. When Jos heard that, he was fine and decided to cancel.

Although Red Bull Racing and Christian Horner express that there is no question of a good relationship with Jos Verstappen, both parties deny that Horner wanted to make sure Jos would not be in action.

Now that Jos did not want to be in action, the Red Bull Ring has found a replacement. That replacement is Patrick Friesacher. The Austrian driver competed in Formula 1 for Minardi in 2005. Friesacher drove 11 Grands Prix and scored three points. Friesacher scored those three points at the infamous 2005 American Grand Prix, where only six drivers started. Friesacher finished sixth in that race.
